What’s New in Red5 Pro v15.6.0?

Here is what you need to know about the Red5 Pro v15.6.0 update announced on July 7, 2026.

New Features

  • AV1 codec is now supported for ingest and egress streams. AV1 is an open-source and royalty-free video codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media. It delivers up to 30-50% better video compression than h.265 codec, meaning it uses significantly less bandwidth to deliver the same or better visual quality. This efficiency results in reduced data consumption and storage needs, making it especially useful in scenarios where bandwidth is limited, such as mobile networks. To learn how the AV1 codec compares to H.264, or how AV1 compares to H.265AV1 compares to VP9 and VP8, read our previous blogs.

Improvements

  • Additional settings added to the HTML SDK examples Publish – DataChannel Messaging and Subscribe – DataChannel Messaging.

Bug Fixes

  • Subscribing to a restreamed MPEGTS unicast stream could result in video distortion and high CPU usage.
  • Recording a live stream could intermittently fail in the video packager.
  • Stream name sometimes would get stuck on RTMP publishers preventing re-publishing with the same name.
  • MP4 recordings could fail to upload to GCP cloud storage.
  • Republishing could result in duplicate video packaging pipelines.
  • Webhook metadata on rest call now passes to VOD manifest recording webhooks.
  • Master manifest will now upload to S3 from video packager enabled LL-HLS with ABR.
  • Mixer streams now properly classified as ingest where appropriate.

Conclusion

Red5 Pro v15.5.3 improves usability and reliability for real-time streaming workflows. With AV1 codec support, HTML SDK improvements, and several bug fixes, this release expands streaming and infrastructure management options for developers, startups, and enterprises.  rom your phone to audiences anywhere in the world.
