What’s New in Red5 Pro v15.0.0?

Here is what you need to know about the Red5 Pro v15.0.0 update announced on October 17, 2025.

New Features

  • Conference API included in Stream Manager: Enables developers to create, manage, and scale conference rooms directly through the Stream Manager API, with no extra setup required. Ideal for interactive meetings, live shows, watch parties, and large-scale streaming events.
Why it matters: End users experience reliable, real-time meetings with minimal setup, while developers benefit from simplified orchestration and automatic scaling behind the scenes.
  • SRT egress support: Enables seamless distribution of streams to external destinations such as broadcast networks, CDNs, or remote production systems using Secure Reliable Transport (SRT). Ideal for hybrid live events and contribution workflows where network reliability varies, SRT’s dynamic packet recovery maintains smooth, high-quality video delivery even over unstable connections.
Why it matters: Provides improved stability and ultra-low latency for live streams, especially when pushing content to multiple endpoints or broadcast partners.
  • Hyper-V support: Introduces compatibility for teams using Microsoft infrastructure, allowing Red5 Pro auto scaled clusters to run in Hyper-V environments alongside existing virtualized workloads.
Why it matters: Gives enterprises and service providers greater flexibility to use their preferred virtualization stack, reducing hosting costs and simplifying infrastructure management.
  • JWT support in SimpleAuth plugin: Adds JSON Web Token (JWT) authentication to enable secure, trusted access to apps and streams through signed tokens. This update strengthens security while keeping authentication simple and efficient.
Why it matters: Makes it easier to integrate Red5 Pro with single sign-on (SSO) systems, improving both user experience and access control.
  • Mixer now supports image overlays: Adds the ability to include static or dynamic visual elements directly in your stream, such as branding, lower thirds, or custom graphics. With alpha channel support, visuals appear polished and transparent. The update also introduces simple CRUD operations for managing overlay files through the local filesystem, making it easy to create, edit, or remove overlays without external tools.
Why it matters: Gives developers greater control over visual customization, enabling smoother, more professional-looking streams and recordings with minimal setup.

Improvements

  • Stream Manager places nodes INSERVICE on ClusterNodeEvents.
  • Mixer A/V synchronization reliability.
  • group.instance.id is now configurable by environment variable, helping rebalance issues.
  • Kafka topic retention periods adjusted for long-term stability.
  • AutoscalePlugin can reliably recreate Kafka producer when needed.
  • Open-Source core upgraded to 2.0.22.
  • Upgraded Node version in HTML5 SDK.
  • Stream Manager can now distribute provisions explicitly targeting a predictable node type.

Bug Fixes

  • Correct nodegroup configuration is now displayed for active scheduled nodegroups.
  • Interstitial stream switching is now functional.
  • The forwarding proxy service is now fully operational.
  • Stream failover mechanisms are now working correctly: when one stream is published to two origins, an edge can switch to the backup if the primary fails.
  • Persist and Non Persist provisioning parameters now respond as expected.
  • Fixed regression bug with subscribing to Zixi broadcaster streams.
  • RTMP Push now logs the correct operational state.
  • Social Pusher streams now push reliably to Facebook and Twitch.
  • The server now responds correctly to Swagger UI requests.
  • Datachannel routing across nodes now works consistently.
  • Post-processing now respects the max.transcode.minutes setting.

Conclusion

Red5 Pro v15.0.0 brings significant updates that enhance performance, reliability, and flexibility for real-time streaming workflows. Featuring new capabilities such as support for Conference API, SRT egress, HyperV, image overlays in Mixer, this release simplifies infrastructure management and video delivery. Along with key improvements and important bug fixes, version 15.0.0 delivers a smoother and more efficient experience for developers, startup, and enterprises.
