What’s New in Red5 Pro v15.5.3?

Here is what you need to know about the Red5 Pro v15.5.3 update announced on May 29, 2026.

New Features

  • Video Packager can answer queries about status of alive stream: The Video Packager now exposes a queryable status endpoint through the Stream Manager, allowing users to check the real-time packaging state of any live stream, including HLS availability and recording status (MP4/MKV on/off), directly from the cloud.
  • Added Stream Manager Proxy to Video Packager nodes: A new Stream Manager proxy routes LLHLS and DASH requests directly to Video Packager nodes, with a short-TTL cache for packager locations and lazy reaping of stale entries. This eliminates the need for clients to discover Video Packager addresses independently, and correctly forwards HLS query parameters (_HLS_msn, _HLS_part) for low-latency segment requests.
  • Video Packager can now record streams and specify output via environment variables: The Video Packager can now auto-record all streams to MP4 and specify the S3 output destination entirely via environment variables, removing the need for per-stream API calls to initiate recording.

Improvements

  • Node communication in Red5 clusters is more resilient to disconnects, reconnects, and downstream stalls.
  • Better cache control for as-streams on multiple Stream Manager deployments.
  • Worked around h.264 publisher handling for Apple devices (iOS and Mac) limiting bad user experiences that previously included dropped frames and freezes.
  • Added default capabilities filters for Webhooks to enable finer-grained filtering.

Bug Fixes

  • Terraform batching now respects batch execution delay configuration.
  • Video Packager could fail to generate recordings for video only streams.

Conclusion

Red5 Pro v15.5.3 improves usability and reliability for real-time streaming workflows. With three new capabilities and several bug fixes, this release expands streaming and infrastructure management options for developers, startups, and enterprises.
